Seventy accounts' clips were waiting for me before 6 and I kept four; 7 launch stories gave me three. The clips: a schoolgirl with a dessert cup for a head, two women arguing over a shadow on a hillside, a doll drawing her own eyes on before makeup, and a red dress that follows a woman home. The news: ChatGPT making GIFs, a video model that takes ten keyframes, and an AI media manager that edits video. The Secret is a plumber who wanted to film pipes.

ChatGPT now makes animated GIFs from a prompt or a photo

OpenAI's ChatGPT now turns a prompt or an uploaded photo into an animated GIF, and it arrives with the Images 2.6 model. The detail I care about is control: you can change the animation speed, edit single frames and share it, which the chatbot could not do in one go before. For a shop owner that is a looping product reaction or a mascot wave. In Klovera I'd take that same photo and make a 24-second reel with lines and sound, not a silent loop.

A popular AI video tool's 4.0 model takes ten keyframes and 15 references for clips up to 30 seconds

A popular AI video tool shipped its 4.0 model on 15 October, and the write-up I read spells out the limits. It makes video from text, images, other videos and subject references, in clips of 3 to 30 seconds, with over 10 keyframes and about 15 combined reference assets, plus a short-video workflow with its own limits. That is a lot of handles for one brief. In Klovera you already lock a character by name, which is what most of those reference slots are for.

Kino AI launches an AI media manager and video editor

Kino AI, a YC S23 company, launched an AI media manager and video editor this week, and the launch thread drew 87 points and 33 comments. The post itself gives me only the name and the category, so I will not pretend to know its price or limits. What I read into it: sorting footage is now a job for AI, not just making it. Klovera starts from the other end, making the clip you have no footage for.

Three angles to sell the same product

Two Klovera videos of the same script: a woman, then a man, each speaking to camera

Be My Producer starts from your idea or your product link and writes three sales angles before it writes a word of script. You pick the one you believe with Use angle, then read and change the script before anything is made.

Want to see which face sells it? The same script can go to a different presenter. These two are one script, two Klovera presenters.

What they see is not who you are

Every one of these four hides a self under a surface people got wrong: a nobody with a secret, a shadow that is not you, a face that has to be drawn on, a woman who looks like she has everything. I think they spread because the share is a confession. You tag the friend who was misjudged, and you are really saying it about yourself.

The dessert-head nobody who turns out to be someone

📈 3,225,768 views · 80× @foodcantalk's usual

▶ Watch on Instagram

I watched a schoolgirl with a dessert cup for a head get mocked as a nobody, until the rich girl pours dish soap into her cup and she collapses. In the hospital the bully smirks, then the father gasps that she is secretly someone.

“She’s a what? She’s a whaaat? She’s a whaaaaaaat?”

— a viewer, @mz_benie

Why it works:

  • Put the insult on a nobody. The empty dessert cup head says nobody before anyone speaks, so the mockery lands in the first second.
  • Make the villain do something petty. Dish soap in a dessert cup is small and cruel, and it drops her in one beat.
  • Cut away on the gasp. The father saying she is secretly someone, then nothing, is why I saw viewers begging for part two.

2. Did that hurt? I'm standing on your shadow

Did that hurt? I'm standing on your shadow

📈 3,825,941 views · 21× @zen.acy's usual

▶ Watch on Instagram

One woman asks if it hurt, then says she is standing on the other's shadow, stomps on it, means it, and it still does not hurt. Then the game turns real: the cruelest thing anyone said about you only stuck because you thought it was you.

“It's such a good msg but still it hurts”

— a viewer, @sia_0384

Why it works:

  • Open with a nonsense question. Did that hurt, asked by a woman standing on a shadow, makes you wait for the catch.
  • Let the stomp escalate. She stomps, then means it, and the answer stays no, which sets the rule before it turns.
  • Land the metaphor in one line. I'm up here turns a hillside game into the sentence people send to a hurt friend.

I could not look away from a doll in a towel turban with black dot eyes in a glam bathroom. She pencils the whites on, pops an iris in like a contact lens, then stacks lashes, liner, brows and gloss until a full face appears.

Why it works:

  • Start with the blank face. Two black dots in a glam bathroom are unsettling enough that I could not scroll past.
  • Make the first step absurd. Pencilling the whites of her eyes on sells the joke that makeup builds a face from zero.
  • Stack the steps fast. Lashes, liner, brows, blush and gloss pile up in fifteen seconds, so every woman sees her own routine.

I watched a woman in a black coat stop at a lit boutique window, want the red satin dress, close her eyes and walk away. At home it hangs on her door, and her mother says wear it before you need a reason.

Why it works:

  • Hold on the window. She stops dead at the lit boutique on a wet New York night, and the ache is the whole hook.
  • Let her walk away empty. Closing her eyes and leaving the dress is the choice I think most viewers recognise in themselves.
  • Give the payoff to the mother. The dress on the door and wear it before you need a reason is a line people keep.

[GOAL]
Format: product ad. 9:16 vertical, 27 seconds, one continuous take. For: a barbershop in Detroit, Michigan. The video: gets men who have been putting it off to book a chair. A nervous young man comes in hiding under a hood and leaves looking like the person he already was.
[CHARACTERS]
@Dez (the barber): black short-sleeved barber smock over a grey t-shirt, dark jeans, brown leather watch. @Kai (the customer): grey hoodie with the hood up, faded black jeans, white sneakers.
[LOCATION]
A one-chair barbershop on a corner in Detroit, Michigan, late afternoon, grey sky with light rain on the window. One strong light source: a warm ring of bulbs around the mirror. A striped pole turning outside, a chalkboard price list in dollars, a jar of blue comb disinfectant on the counter.
[SHOTS]
0–7 s, wide, slow push in from the door: @Kai steps in with the hood up and eyes down while @Dez wipes the chair without looking up. @Kai: "Just a trim. Interview Monday."
7–14 s, medium over Dez's shoulder: Dez pulls the hood down, turns Kai's chin toward the mirror and studies him. @Dez: "You're not hiding a bad cut. You're hiding you."
14–21 s, close on the mirror, static: clippers move, the hoodie slides off the shoulders, Kai's eyes come up and stay up. @Kai: "Didn't know I still looked like that."
21–27 s, medium, the chair spins slowly to face camera: Dez brushes the neck clean, pats both shoulders and nods at the lens. @Dez: "Chair's open. Bring the hood, leave it here."
[LOOK]
Handheld but steady, warm tungsten against grey window light, 35mm, light film grain.
[SOUND]
Rain on the window and a radio low in the back, clipper buzz, the squeak of the chair, the lines, music: slow soul instrumental, about 75 BPM, warm and sure.

🤫 The Daily Secret

Sell the repair you talked them out of

A plumber wrote to me last week asking how he could use AI to get more calls. His Instagram feed was all copper pipe and water heaters, and he could not work out why nobody who saw it called. I asked him what people say when he turns up. Every time, he said, they are braced to be ripped off. Every plumber story a customer has ever heard is about the one who sold a new heater when it needed a washer.

So I told him the thing most plumbers get wrong. They sell competence, and nobody doubts a plumber is competent. What they doubt is whether he is honest, and you cannot say you are honest, you have to be caught being it. The ad that works is not the pipe you fixed. It is the expensive job you refused to do. Show a man about to spend big on a new water heater and a plumber who kneels down, points at a part and tells him to put his wallet away.
